The Spirit cries in our hearts, “Abba, Father” (Gal. 4:6).
Reflection:
The Holy Spirit completely bypasses formal, rigid, and cold religious protocol to initiate the most intimate form of relational communion possible. By causing our internal spirits to cry “Abba, Father,” the Spirit establishes a tender, deeply familial bond with God. This permanently shatters the devastating illusion of a distant, transactional, or angry deity who is constantly disappointed with us, rooting us instead firmly in the affectionate, unconditional love of a perfect Father.
This cry of “Abba” is the ultimate cure for the orphan spirit. It reassures us that we do not have to beg for scraps from the Master’s table; we are invited to feast confidently as beloved children. When you feel anxious, condemned, or utterly exhausted by the demands of life, let the Spirit rise up within you and cry out to your Abba. Rest securely in His lap today, knowing that His affection for you is completely independent of your performance.
Prayer:
Abba, Father, I thank You for Your overwhelming, tender affection toward me. I ask that the Holy Spirit would continually cry out within my heart, reminding me of my secure placement as Your deeply loved child.
Eradicate every trace of the orphan spirit from my mind. Whenever I am tempted to view You as a distant or angry judge, overwhelm me with the undeniable reality of Your perfect, fatherly love and absolute acceptance. Amen.
