The Spirit is the agent by which we are baptised into the body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:13).
Reflection:
Western hyper-individualism is fundamentally incompatible with the culture of the kingdom of God. The Holy Spirit supernaturally immerses every new believer directly into the collective, organic body of Christ. This divine baptism ensures that absolutely no one is meant to function in dangerous isolation. We are radically, beautifully interdependent upon one another, reinforcing the deep truth of our “Better Together” culture at Glorify Church. We desperately need the specific gifts and graces carried by our brothers and sisters.
When we attempt to follow Jesus in isolation, we become highly vulnerable to deception, spiritual fatigue, and the attacks of the enemy. The Spirit connects us to the body so that we can be nourished, corrected, challenged, and fiercely loved. We grow and thrive best when we are deeply connected in authentic community, such as our Deep Groups. Thank God today for your church family, and commit to being an active, vulnerable, and supportive member of the body into which the Spirit has baptized you.
Prayer:
Thank You, Holy Spirit, for baptizing me into the beautiful, diverse, and global body of Christ. I reject the lie of individualism and acknowledge that I am radically interdependent upon my brothers and sisters for spiritual survival and growth.
Help me to commit deeply to my local church family and my Deep Group. Give me the grace to be vulnerable, to serve sacrificially, and to fully embrace the truth that we are infinitely better together than we could ever be apart. Amen.
