Ro. 8:9 9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.
1 Cor 3:16 16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?
2 Tim 1:14 14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
John 14:17 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[a] in you.
I remember when I was expecting my first baby. It amazed me that someone was growing in me – what a wonderful miraculous experience. I clearly remember how my little baby affected my whole body, every part of me. My figure changed, my stomach and the ability to eat food changed, my energy levels changed and the feelings inside me were something I had never experienced before.
My experience is not that dissimilar to the power of the Holy Spirit living in us. When we accept Jesus into our hearts, the Holy Spirit then resides in our lives. Imagine that while I was pregnant I totally ignored all that was going on in my body – I would have missed out on the most amazing experience of my life. It is the same with the Holy Spirit, we need to acknowledge His presence and connect with Him. The Bible sometimes says the “Spirit of Christ” lives inside believers (Romans 8:9). More often it says the “Spirit of God” (Romans 8:9) or just the “Holy Spirit” is in us (1 Corinthians 6:19). Those phrases all mean the same thing: when we believe, God establishes a relationship with us that’s so close that we become one with him. He’s in us, and we’re in him. We contain heaven, we are carriers of Gods glory. When we tap into this gift that Jesus gave us – everything changes. We need to take hold of the powerful force that is with in us. Everything is possible with Christ in us. (Mark 14:36)
In the New Testament we see the disciples receive the Holy Spirit, with this comes power, power to witness to the ends of the earth but to be effective witnesses we need to learn to rely on the Spirit to help us. We need to connect daily with the Holy Spirit. There is no secret formula that makes the Spirit’s power operational in our lives, but through faith, learning to connect, interact we become more in-tune with God. God promised back in the Old Testament to send his Spirit to cause us to obey him and Jesus said the Spirit will come to comfort and teach us. Whenever you change and become more like Jesus, that’s a sign of the Spirit working in you. As you journey in life, partner with the Holy Spirit. Seek his guidance and council. Allow the Holy Spirit to be a part of every decision you make. Allow Him to reveal the truth. Connect and allow the Holy Spirit to transform your life, cutting away the old and revealing the new.
